Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Will there be any cost?
A: Only nominal telephone costs – we recommend you purchase a calling card with cheap rates to the US as this is where the conference call dial-in is located. This should cost less than $1 per call. Participants in the Sydney seminar will also need to pay for their own travel and accomodation - unless a sponsor can be obtained to cover these costs.
Q: How do the mentoring sessions work?
A: These are conducted on the telephone at a pre-agreed time. There is up to 1 hour per week allocated for each participant.
Q: How do I get selected for the seminar in Sydney?
A: You will need to complete the full course and any exercises that are set. You will be evaluated on your participation, business activities, attitude and a range of other factors.
Q: What do you mean by the "music industry"?
A: You might be one of the thousands of unsigned artists under the age of 35 (ideally) who have established your own small business in an attempt to penetrate the music industry. Or you may be servicing these artists as an independent label, management company, promotional company, touring agent, accountant, solicitor, graphic artist etc. In all these instances, Breakthrough has something to offer you.
Q: What if I am over 35?
A: Preference will be given to applicants aged 35 years or less, however, if spaces are available, older applicants will be welcome.
Q: What if I don't have an ABN or don't run my own business?
A: As long as you are any of the owner, a manager or an employee with a substantial management role in an Australian small business you should qualify. Please contact us if you are not sure.
Q: Do I get a qualification having completed the course?
A: You will receive a certificate of completion but the course is not accredited. Breakthrough is a business skills course first and foremost, with the content provided by experts in their fields. It is also tailored to music industry participants but is not meant to be a manifesto on the music industry. The course is broad, designed to give maximum impact over a short period and the mentoring component should be seen as a key component.
Q: What is the Small Business Entrepreneurship Programme?
A: An Australian Government programme that provides funding for skills development for young entrepreneurs, so as to encourage more young people to consider starting their own small business, to look at what they do well, learn from others and "have a go". The bigger picture is to help Australia become more entrepreneurial, more innovative, more business smart and to compete in the global market place. More... |
